Hunt for the aurora borealis on a guided group tour from Reykjavik. Witness the unique starry sky with the flash of light cutting across the Icelandic landscape.
You will meet at the Tour Bus Stops in downtown or other select hotels outside downtown and located within Reykjavik. The group size can vary based on the season it can be a max of 40-50 people per group. Please note that pickup and drop off are included in our tour duration. This duration may adjust if there is an early appearance of the lights, or if there needs to be a little extra time to wait for the aurora to come out.
The journey will go outside of the city limits away from as much light pollution as possible--the northern lights are harder to see from Reykjavík. The end location is not pre-determined as it will depend on the cloud coverage and activity in the evening. The drive will be kept as short as possible, and you might stop at several locations as the lights can be quite elusive. If there is a spot the guide determines as a good location, you might stay in that spot. It is often a waiting game for this beautiful phenomenon, but it is always worth it.
As you search for the aurora borealis, your guide will set up their camera for photos of your group.
Your tour guide will ensure everybody gets an opportunity for a photo. Curl up in warm blankets and enjoy a self-service selection of hot chocolate and snacks and enjoy some stargazing while you wait for the aurora to appear.
If the hunt is successful, you will have photos emailed to you using a drop box link within 7 days of your tour to the email provided with the booking.
THIS TOUR RUNS DEPENDENT ON WEATHER - every day your guide will assess the situation and decide whether or not to run the tour. This decision is made by 5 PM. In the case of a canceled tour due to weather, you will be notified.

Group size will vary!
The bus size can vary, depending on group sizes, we have a maximum group size of 40-50 people per vehicle, on our larger vehicle tour there is a private guide and photographer for the group and then a separate driver to keep everyone warm and cozy in the bus with enough space. It tends to get cold out there, so it is great to have a warm and cozy bus to heat up in between photos or attempts to spot the Northern Lights.
-
Cloudy weather or low activity?
The tour will only run if there is a high possibility of a sighting - every day the team assess the situation and decide whether or not to run the tour. This decision is made by 5 PM. In the case of a canceled tour due to weather you will be notified at that time, and feel free to send David the Guide any questions at info@davidtheguide.com.

About David the Guide and why I am partnered with them
David the Guide started in 2016 one guide, David, sharing the excitement of Iceland's nature. Now, the company has grown into a small team of guides and admins all personally hand-selected or approved by David. Everyone on the team has a passion for exploring and sharing their knowledge.
I was friends with Christian, one of the guides for David the Guide, long before thinking about working with the company. I had been following Christian on Instagram for quite some time, and I respected his motiation for providing the best guest experience and most of all, his pursuit in learning the science behind the aurora. After all, some knowledge about how auroras are formed and how to read space weather data can positively impact your chances of seeing the lights!
One day, I asked Christian more about where he worked and what kind of guiding he did, and that's when I was introduced to the family of David the Guide and their wonderful team of guides and admins.
My mission is to provide my audience with the best chances of seeing the aurora, whether that's by promoting my educational blogs, articles and e-books or directing travelers to tour companies that I know are reliable and will work hard for you to see the aurora. I have been to Iceland many times to see the aurora, and it truly is a magical experience. David the Guide is a trusted option I feel confident promoting and sharing with my followers.
