Aurora tours by Levi, a professional northern lights guide!
I'm excited to partner with Levi Johnson this aurora season as he starts his guiding journey in Fairbanks, Alaska. Levi is a commercial pilot who has lived in Alaska for nearly four years, but he has photographed the aurora for over a decade. This year, Levi decided to pursue his aurora chasing passion more seriously and is offering aurora tours starting in December 2025.

- Private tours: $1500 (group of five; $250 savings, each additional person is $100 up to a max. six people)
- Photos included
- For all ages!
- 6-9 hours
- Pick up/drop off from Fairbanks-area accommodations
What to expect:
Today:
When you book a tour, you will specify your accommodations (if booked already), number of people on your tour, etc. and payment will be collected up front. You will receive a confirmation email, Levi's contact information, and other key details.
Before Your Tour:
Levi will contact you the day of your tour to confirm the pickup location and communicate cloud cover forecasts and the expectations for the night. You can always contact me, too either by phone or email.
The Tour:
- Pickup from a hotel or Airbnb in Fairbanks 1-2 hours after sunset
- Drive to aurora chasing locations near Fairbanks
- Drive back to Fairbanks. Drop off at hotel around 2-4 am (drop-off schedule will depend on drive time/auroral activity)
Depending on cloud cover and auroral activity, we may travel farther from town. Our goal is to see the northern lights, so be ready to chase them all night! Photographers will have plenty of opportunities, and Levi will be there to help. Aurora portraits are included. If you’re a serious photographer, we recommend a private tour.

Why book with Levi?
Check availability-
You will be guided by an expert aurora chaser and photographer.
Levi is an experienced aurora chaser and photographer with years of aurora forecasting knowledge under his belt. Being a commercial pilot, Levi most importantly knows how to forecast cloud cover and weather conditions which can help him find clear areas where auroras may be visible. Levi's expertise sets him above and beyond many other aurora guides.

Enjoy a more personal experience under the aurora.
While companies like Greatland Adventure and Face the Outdoors offer larger group sizes, since Levi only allows a maximum of five people on his tours (up to six for a private tour), this allows for a more personalized and individual experience.
Guided by a professional
Levi is an experienced aurora chaser and is commercially insured and licensed to be a tour operator in Alaska. Besides aurora tours, I have employed Levi to run flightseeing tours during my workshops, and he values safety and customer experience above all else. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the booking process?
You will reserve the dates you want a tour and payment will be collected up front. You may cancel the tour up to 72 hours before the night of your booking.
What if it's looking cloudy the day of the tour?
Cloud cover is hard to predict in most places, but in Fairbanks, it's impossible. Levi is a pilot by training, so he knows better than anyone how to interpret a cloud cover forecast and weather chart. If conditions don't look promising for aurora, Levi will contact you before your tour. Any cancelation due to weather is fully refundable unless you want to join us on a future tour with availability.
What is your refund policy?
Tours are FULLY refundable up to 72 hours prior to your INITIAL tour departure date and time. Please either contact Levi or myself to initiate the refund process.
If your tour is rescheduled due to weather conditions, the 72 hours timeline does NOT transfer to the new date. You need to either let us know 1. the new date will work (non-refundable) or 2. the new date will not work (full refund).
If you no-show or cancel a rescheduled tour that you agreed to in writing (e.g., text/email) to attend, you will not be refunded!
Cancellations based on overwhelmingly poor weather or aurora conditions will be refunded in full as soon as possible. Cancellation requests less than 72 hours from initial booking departure date will only be granted if the tour is called off due to weather or other conditions. We will accommodate reschedules based on availability. You may decline to be rescheduled, and you will receive a full refund in that case.
What should I bring?
Bring warm clothes, snacks, handwarmers, and water. Optionally, bring a headlamp, camera, tripod, and any props for photos!

Meet your guide!
Levi is one of my best friends and is partly the reason why I live in Alaska today! Originally from the Twin Cities in Minnesota (Farmington), levi graduated from Lake Superior College with his commercial pilot's license, pursuing his dream of being an airline pilot. He moved to Alaska in early 2022, and I did the drive with him all the way from Minnesota to Fairbanks *in the winter!* Levi flew cargo and fuel for Everts Air, working as a flight engineer on the DC-6 aircraft. Now, Levi does aerial photography for a comapny in Minnesota during the summer and has recently started running aurora tours in Alaska during the winter. I'm excited to be partnering with Levi this winter to offer aurora tours.
